Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Advanced Technologies Agreement

This Agreement is entered into by The Hive Social Garden, Inc. (“the Hive”) and all employees, contractors, and community members (“Users”) involved in the development, deployment, or use of AI, machine learning (ML), Quantum Artificial Intelligence (QAI), or any other advanced technologies in connection with the Hive’s mission and programs.

1. Purpose and Guiding Principles

This Agreement is designed to ensure that the use of advanced technologies aligns with the Hive’s core vision: to use nature and technology to engineer a more equitable world for all beings to thrive. Our guiding principles are:

  • Human-Centered Design: All technology, including AI, will be used to augment and empower human decision-making, not replace it. Human oversight and accountability will be maintained at all times.
  • Transparency and Explainability: Users will be transparent about the use of AI. We will strive to understand the rationale behind AI-generated outputs and will be able to explain how and why an AI tool was used in a given process.
  • Fairness and Bias Mitigation: We will actively work to identify and mitigate biases in AI systems. The goal is to ensure our technological tools do not perpetuate or exacerbate existing inequalities, particularly within vulnerable communities.
  • Privacy and Data Protection: We will handle all data with the utmost care, prioritizing privacy and security. We will not use sensitive or personal data with public-facing AI tools and will comply with all relevant data protection laws and best practices.

2. Sustainability Practices

Our commitment to sustainable globalization extends to the technology we use. We recognize the significant energy consumption of advanced computing and will prioritize the following practices to minimize our environmental footprint:

  • Energy Efficiency: We will favor AI algorithms and hardware that are energy-efficient. We will also seek to utilize data centers and cloud services that are powered by renewable energy sources whenever feasible.
  • Data Minimization: We will only collect and process the data necessary for our objectives, reducing the computational and energy resources required for training and operating our models.
  • Life-Cycle Management: We will consider the entire life cycle of the technology, from the extraction of raw materials for hardware to the disposal of electronic waste, and will work to reduce our impact at every stage.

    3. Ethical Use of AI and Advanced Technologies

    • Non-Malicious Use: We explicitly prohibit the use of AI and advanced technologies for any purpose that could cause harm, including but not limited to the disruption of democratic processes, the creation of deepfakes, or the spread of disinformation.
    • Ethical Social Engineering: We will use AI as a tool to support ethical social engineering and storyteller energy, which is designed to foster community, build trust, and empower individuals. We will not use it for manipulation, coercion, or any form of power-based violence.
    • Intellectual Property and Security: We will leverage AI and quantum technologies, such as post-quantum cryptography, to help participants secure their intellectual property and private information, ensuring that our tools contribute to a safer, more secure digital environment for our community.
    • Quantum Intelligence (QI): Recognizing the dual-use nature of quantum intelligence, we commit to using it solely for ethical and socially beneficial purposes. We will actively participate in and contribute to the development of governance frameworks that promote equitable access to and responsible use of quantum technologies.

    4. Governance and Enforcement

    • Oversight: The responsibility for ensuring compliance with this Agreement lies with The Hive Social Garden’s leadership and designated program directors.
    • Training and Education: All Users will receive training on the ethical principles and practical guidelines outlined in this Agreement. This is to ensure they understand the intent and impact of their actions.
    • Reporting: We will create a transparent and non-retaliatory process for reporting any concerns or potential violations of this Agreement.
    • Continuous Review: This Agreement will be reviewed and updated regularly to reflect changes in technology, best practices, and community feedback. This ensures that we remain proactive in our approach to ethical technology use.

    By signing this Agreement, all Users commit to upholding the values of The Hive Social Garden and to using AI and advanced technologies in a manner that contributes to a more sustainable, equitable, and secure world.
